The MindsEye Series...
...started with several handcrafted/welded eyewear that I created in a lost moment.
All of my work has to do with perception and response.
Thoughts about our polarized society prompted me to incorporate the steampunk inspired 'glasses' in images of people who are visually extreme in one way or another. Old, young, dark, light, and somehow unusual.
The work asks how they see their world and how we see them. It asks what do we actually see?...what do we actually know?... and how do we feel about them?
Our judgments of others often take less than a nanosecond. How accurate, informed, and wise are they? How guided by fear? How warped by belief and expectation?
This series includes oil and acrylic paintings, and photo based mixed media imagery.
